Assessment Task 1
Questions to be answered are:
1.
What is your client’s research
question and what is the real information need?
The question I have been
asked, what is the life cycle and migratory patterns of the Short
Tailed-Shearwater commonly known as the Mutton Bird? The Information they
needed was lifespan, the route they take, where they nest and what they eat.
2.
Why is the material needed?
Because they wanted to
write a brief overview about the Mutton Bird.
3.
Who is the client?
A hobby ornithologist who
was interested in the Mutton Bird.
4.
How recent should the information be?
Relatively recent, though
because the short-tailed shearwater is a seasonal bird and has had quite a few
hardships in recent years, finding information is quite difficult.
5.
What type and what amount of
information are required?
They needed an image of the
migratory pattern, data on specie numbers, adult bird’s lifespans etc because
it is a brief overview I have given them a website URL to parks and wildlife
who are a good source of information.
6.
When does the client require the
information?
The client said they were
quite busy and so wanted me to email them the information I had found within a
few days.
7.
Where has the client already looked?
They said they had only
really looked in books because they are quite computer illiterate and so he/her
wanted me to find more recent information online.
8.
Where did the client hear of this?
The client walks their
local beach all year round, early in the morning at dawn and in the afternoon
at dusk, and had been doing it for over a decade an every year they noticed
huge numbers of birds flying out in the Derwent and some washing up on their
beach around March, April and May, and because my client wasn’t into
technology, they decided to ask the question with the little knowledge they
had, which was the name of the bird (Mutton Bird) at the local library they
visit. After some conversation the client said they wanted this information so
they could send a letter about it to their grandchild overseas.
